Expert travel writer:

Laura Kiniry

About

Laura’s career started with a BA at San Francisco State University, taking semester-long classes in both San Francisco and California history.

She got her start writing a guidebook to New Jersey, where she was born and raised, and has been a full-time freelance journalist for the last 15+ years.

Over the years she’s written for BBCTravel, CNN, Travel + Leisure, the Telegraph, and dozens of others, along with her regular contributions to Smithsonian, Atlas Obscura, and Conde Nast Traveler.

Background

After graduating from university and taking a mostly-solo six month trip through Australia, New Zealand, and Thailand Laura decided to give travel writing a go. Through a ton of persistence and a penchant for creative ideas, she’s made a living at it.

Laura considers herself a ‘writer who loves to travel’. This being said, she’s been to all seven continents, harvesting olives in Italy, building a mudbrick classroom in Australia, and tracking elephants on foot in Ghana.

Although she resides in San Francisco, her ‘pretty city’, she gets back to the U.S. East Coast as much as possible between travel to see family.

On the bucket list

To visit Everest base camp; kayak the waters of Vietnam’s Halong Bay; swim with whale sharks; see polar bears and sloths in the wild; go hiking in Armenia; explore the Amazon basin; and visit the island of Borneo.
