Uakari Lodge

Last updated: 19 June, 2023

This is one of the best lodges for wildlife, guiding and ecotourism practice in the Amazon, with rooms floating on a river in the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve – part of the 52 million-hectare Central Amazon Ecological Corridor, one of the largest protected areas on the planet.

This is the heart of the wild. Rooms sit on the water (you can hear river dolphins and caiman-crocodiles in the water as you lie in bed), with the suites linked by floating bridges. Pristine rainforest lies all around. Boat trips, hikes and other activities provided at the lodge are first class.

Surrounding area

The lodge floats on a placid river linked to a series of creeks, swamps, oxbow lakes and the Amazon itself. Wildlife-filled rainforest stretches for hundreds of kilometres in every direction, dotted only with a few small river villages. The nearest town, Tefé (connected to Manaus with regular 80 min flights) is a 90-minute boat ride away.
