Oude Werf Hotel

Place to Stay

Oude Werf Hotel

The oldest, continually-running hotel in South Africa, the Oude Werf began life in 1686 as a church, before being converted into a hotel in 1802.

Its 21st-century incarnation combines antique pieces with modern touches; exposed brick and vibrantly-patterned fabrics and furniture.

Don’t miss afternoon tea in the eclectically-furnished (including numerous clocks) lounge; Oude Werf’s cheesecake is legendary, and it’s a great spot to people-watch after a morning exploring Stellenbosch.

The hotel is located in the heart of town, with art galleries, wine emporiums, boutiques and restaurants all within easy strolling distance.

The world-class vineyards of the wine region are all around and close by. Cape Town city centre and the picturesque coastline, however, are a 45-minute drive away.
