Place to Stay

AC Hotel Burgos

Close to the heart of Burgos, this is a chain hotel with a lovely touch of class. Occupying an attractive 19th-century apartment house built at an angle, with three facades of French windows, it is filled with light.

Rooms are contemporary neutral (some look out over the river, others have views of Burgos Cathedral’s distinctive lace-like spires) with corridors overlooking the triangular lobby. There’s a casual chic lounge for cocktail sipping and breakfast, and a terrace for hanging out in front.

There’s parking spaces directly under the hotel, making it a good bet if you’re touring by car – but it’s also right next to the Camino.

A real bargain in the heart of Burgos, this slick little 3-star hotel in a renovated older building takes its name from the nearby Museum of Human Evolution and the Forum Congress Centre.

Crisp Scandinavian design prevails in the bedrooms and public areas, with local wine culture as the main theme; large pictures of grapes on the walls, and wine-based bath products.

It offers inexpensive parking 50m away and free bike storage, a good breakfast and a friendly English-speaking welcome, for couples, pilgrims or families who want to be in walking distance of the sights.

Formerly a Gothic-Renaissance monastery overlooking the Rio Arlanzon, the Palace de Burgos is now an attractive four-star hotel.

Stylish, earth-toned, contemporary bedrooms have wooden floors and comfy beds that come with a pillow menu. Many have views over the river or nearby cathedral.

Staff are very helpful, and there’s a beautiful glass-roofed cloister, gourmet restaurant, tasty buffet breakfast, gym and sauna, and private parking in the garage below. If you like old stones and creature comforts, you won’t go wrong.

The Palacio de Burgos could hardly be more central – it’s right in the town centre. It looks out over the tree-lined river, and faces a busy street and main bus route (convenient if you arrive by train), but once inside you’ll hardly notice any noise.

The beautiful Arch of Santa Maria and the Cathedral are just a couple of minutes’ walk over the pedestrian bridge, along with a wide range of restaurants and bars.
