Official star rating:
Located mid-mountain at Deer Valley, this classic ski lodge opened in 1982 and was inspired by the Olympic legend Stein Eriksen and his Norwegian heritage. As such, it has a distinctly Scandinavian feel, decorated with Norwegian sleds and featuring 145 stone fireplaces.
The hotel boasts one of Utah’s most lauded restaurants, Glitretind – fine dining (the desserts are to die for) accompanied by superb views of the Wasatch Mountains.
Families are warmly welcomed here – the hotel has a child-friendly outdoor pool, games room and shows free movies daily at the on-site theatre.
About the resort
Located just a mile from Park City, Deer Valley is as upmarket and civilised as ski resorts get.
The slopes are varied and the trails immaculately pisted (the resort is known for its impeccable grooming). Nursery slopes, greens, blues, glades, bumps, chutes – the resort has it all.
The resort is one of only three in the USA where snowboarding is prohibited, and it also limits the number of people allowed on the mountain each day, so skiers are guaranteed few lift queues and lots of space on the slopes – a plus for families.
