This ski-in, ski-out hotel is a fabulous fusion of old and new. Housed in Alta’s oldest mining shack, dating back to the 1800s, Snowpine Lodge underwent a huge $40m renovation in 2019, transforming it into the resort’s newest and most luxurious hotel.
It still features many of the original wood beams and exposed stone walls, alongside distinctly modern décor; bedrooms are elegantly minimalist with plush beds and slope-side views.
Snowpine Lodge is a big hit with families, who love the convenience of the in-house ski shop and on-site kids’ amenities – there are two games rooms, plus a heated outdoor pool with a volleyball net.
About the resort
The Utah resort of Alta is steadfastly old fashioned – one of the only resorts in the USA that still bans snowboarders. Despite this, it is a friendly resort with some excellent terrain.
Alta, which is linked to Snowbird, is renowned as an expert skier’s mountain – the black diamond runs are steep and plentiful. However, there is a good zone for beginner skiers, and the Alf Engen ski school is excellent. Alta’s snow record is up there as the best in North America.
