Mountain Chalet Aspen
Aspen, Colorado, United States of America (USA)
Official star rating:
America’s answer to Zermatt, Aspen is the most expensive ski resort in the country – which makes this central yet affordable B&B-style hotel a real gem. Located within walking distance of the Silver Queen Gondola, it’s one of the few remaining old-time ski lodges in Aspen (dating back to 1954).
Its rooms are spacious and light; many feature the original 1950s furniture, while others have lovely mountain views. The solar-heated outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room are just the ticket for easing tired ski muscles, while the games room (pool table, foosball, piano) is ideal for kids and groups.
The hotel hosts regular live music acts in its cosy lounge.
About the resort
Playground of the rich and famous it may be, but Aspen is much more than just a ritzy getaway for the elite. A historic town that caters for ordinary holidaymakers who flock here to experience its world-class skiing, the terrain is truly exceptional.
While beginners essentially have their own private mountain at Buttermilk, experts can test their skill on Highland Bowl, home to some of the steepest in-bounds skiing in North America. Best of all, crowds are a rarity.
