Official star rating:
This ski-in, ski-out hotel underwent a $10 million renovation in 2020-21, waving goodbye to its lodge-themed decor and welcoming a new chic and modern design with wood, fur, fireplaces and artwork aplenty. There’s a mix of guest rooms and suites, the latter of which have sleek Scandi-style kitchens.
There are two restaurants where skiers can refuel on dishes such as Rocky Mountain elk chilii, and line-caught wild salmon.
Guests love the heated outdoor pool and hot tub, with their panoramic Rocky Mountain views. The hotel also offers a range of experiences, from dog sledding to heli trips over the San Sophia ridgeline.
About the resort
Wild West charm and dramatic mountain scenery – Telluride has bags of character. A friendly, small-scale resort with just 1,700 acres of skiable terrain (Whistler has 8,171), what it lacks in size it makes up for with top-quality terrain. Experts have some truly challenging runs such as Bushwacker – one of the steepest pistes on the planet.
Meanwhile, there are some superb blue and green runs for beginners and intermediates. The resort is high, too – its lifts top out at 3,815m. The Telluride Ski School is excellent, especially for young rippers.
