Travel bucket list idea:
Luxor, Upper Egypt, Egypt
Howard Carter, a renowned British archaeologist, is eternally remembered for unearthing the virtually intact tomb of the young Pharaoh Tutankhamun in 1922 – a discovery that astounded the world.
This museum, in his former residence, retains is meticulously preserved as if he still lived there, offering an intimate glimpse into the remarkable lives of early 20th-century explorers.
Inside, you can explore his library, and photographic darkroom, and study with original tools and photographs. It’s dotted with artefacts, including a faithful reproduction of Tutankhamun’s tomb, as Carter himself found it, transporting visitors back to the moment of discovery.
The museum is located on the West Bank of the Nile, near the entrance of the Valley of the Kings. It’s best visited as part of a tour of those tombs.
An hour here is usually enough.
The museum is open all year round, from Saturday to Thursday. Closed on Friday.
